Senate leaders were unable to find common ground in financing the government.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said this week that Congress will likely delay a final agreement on government finances until early 2023. Senator McConnell met with Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer early in the week and indicated the overall interests of the parties regarding government spending are not in alignment.
“We don’t have agreements to do virtually anything,” Senator McConnell said. “We don’t even have an overall agreement on how much we want to spend. We’re running out of time, and that may end up being the only option left that we could agree to pursue,” he added.
